Biography

Shelly Black (she/her) is the Digital Archivist in the Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections, where she is strengthening capacity to preserve and ensure long‑term access to digital collections. Before joining UNM, she was the Digital Archivist at North Carolina State University, where she developed workflows for processing born‑digital materials, and implemented a virtual reading room to provide secure, remote use of digital materials. Beyond her institutional work, Shelly served as Treasurer on the BitCurator Consortium Executive Council (2023-2026) and chaired the Society of American Archivists' Archivists & Archives of Color Section Steering Committee (2021-2023). She holds a BFA in photography and an MLIS from the University of Arizona where she was a Knowledge River scholar. Selected Publications Black, S. (forthcoming 2026).
