Claire-Lise Bénaud

Claire-Lise Bénaud began working at the University of New Mexico as an Ibero-American cataloger in 1988 and served as Head of the Catalog Department until 2005.   In the fall of 2005, she became Associate Director of the Center for Southwest Research/Special Collections.   In this position, she is responsible for the technical services unit, Pictorial Archives, and Preservation. She manages the rare book and Southwestern materials collections and coordinates activities related to archives and manuscripts, preservation, digitization, security of collections, and preparation of exhibits.   She is the subject librarian for French and Francophone literatures. She has written numerous articles on Cataloging and Latin American topics and has presented both nationally and internationally. She has an undergraduate degree from University of Paris, Nanterre, and a Master's in Library Science from Columbia University.

She has been involved with promotion and tenure throughout her career. She was a member of the University Libraries Promotion and Tenure Committee for several terms and was Chair in 2003/05 and in 2007/09. At the University, she is a member of the Provost's Promotion and Tenure Committee. She has served on the Academic Freedom and Tenure Committees for several terms. She completed the Basic Mediation Skills training offered by UNM Faculty Dispute Resolution in 2008.
