Liz (Elizabeth) Cooper
As the Social Sciences Librarian, Liz acts as the liaison to the following departments and supports the library needs of their faculty and students: Linguistics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Speech & Hearing Sciences, the Center for English Language & American Culture (CELAC), the Global Education Office, and other departments as needed! In this role she regularly meets with students who need research help; provides library instruction sessions; selects materials for related library collections; and in conjunction with the Library's Research Data Services department, supports social science data needs.
Liz received an MLIS from the University of Texas at Austin, an MA in Middle East Studies (with a concentration in anthropology) from the American University in Cairo, and a BA in English from Texas A&M University. Before coming to UNM, Liz worked at San Antonio College, the American University in Cairo, Emory University, and the University of Colorado Denver. She has worked in and managed a wide variety of library departments such as Library Systems, Reference, Instruction/Outreach, and Planning and has worked as a social sciences librarian for over 12 years. Her passion is for social sciences librarianship and she is very excited to be supporting the social sciences departments at UNM.
Liz's research interests include internationalization and academic libraries, access to information in developing countries, and qualitative research methods.
